Power of Prayer and Fasting

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is practised by religious people. This is done through individuals denying themselves food so that they can focus on their creator. This discipline has resulted in tremendous results in individuals both in the Bible and the current world today which we are going to discuss today.

By fasting (denying ourselves food) we are basically telling God that we need you more for survival than the daily food we take. When we do this it really humbles and causes God to exert tremendous power in us (the same power that resurrected Jesus from the dead Ephesians 1; 19-20) and this power makes us to exercise the authority and power given to us to cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead and all that God has granted us.

Do you remember in the Bible Jesus disciples coming to Him and telling Jesus about the demons that had not gone and Jesus told them this does not go unless with Prayer and fasting. When Jesus was saying this He wasn’t speaking of the demons but of the unbelief that was in His disciples.

Consider Mathew 17; 20-21

20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [a]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 [b] However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

The above verses basically imply that fasting increases your Faith that is confidence, trust, assurance in the God you serve. What does this translate to that whatever anything you ask from God it is answered because you have the backup of God on your side.

Consider 1John5; 14 AMP below.

14 This is the

[remarkable degree of]

confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that [a]if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us. 15 And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him.

In conclusion note that the power that Fasting and prayer causes in our life is to increase our faith in God and decrease our faith or reliance on man or earthly things which is done through fasting that deprives our body of strength so that we can depend on the strength of God.
